Government Hopeless

Originally posted Tuesday, 28 April, 2009

It was recently announced that the Government (hold the hisses and boos please) are to raise taxes AGAIN. Despite the fact that the whole country (well except for Jonathan Ross and Gordon Brown) is up to its bollocks in debt, they have decided to add 2p to fuel, 1p on a pint and 7p (yep 7p) on a pack of cigarettes. Apparently, it's not enough for them to see us struggling to pay our bills and not doing a thing to help, NOW they want to take away our simple pleasures too.

Pubs all over the country are being shut down, having already been hit by the Smoking Ban. Now, they have to deal with the fact that more and more people are just going to go to Tesco's, buy cheap booze, and stay at home smoking hand-rolled cigarettes, made from tobacco that is being sold illegally by those trying to cash in on the country's growing desperation.
When is this going to stop? People are trying their hardest to get jobs in this difficult time, but with public transport going down the pan, and fuel costs getting higher and higher, how are those people going to be able to get to these jobs? Some people are travelling for miles and miles to work 12 hours a day, only to spend half there wages on travel expenses, and whats left being paid back into the hands of the greedy fat cats that "run" the country.
Gone are the days when you could go for a nice drive around the countryside, stopping at a pub on the way for a meal, a pint and a cigarette. If the country keeps going this way, even Soviet Russia is going to look appealing.
